My Bucket List of Manliness

A bucket list is fairly explanatory.  A Bucket List of Manliness is almost more self explanatory.  Below are a few things on my personal bucket list that are "manly".  (Is it grammatically kosher to actually type out quote, unquote manly? Because I like the sound of it and people don't actually see that in their heads when "manly" is on a page... just a random thought).

Men, be envious and a feel free to add any of the below to your list. Ladies... don't try and understand because you won't.

Numero Uno: Fly a helicopter.

Not something weenie like this
guy...
... Something a little more ferocious.

I'm not exactly sure where this desire came from, but I've always been fascinated with the idea of flying military helicopters.  The more dangerous the environment, the better!  The scene below from Apocalypse Now is the quintessential B.A. helicopter scene that will make any true man want to fly helicopters!

**Unfortunately no matter how hard I looked on YouTube I couldn't find the actual full-length scene.  I highly recommend the movie as a whole as well. Excellent!

Numero Uno part Deux: Shoot out of a helicopter

This is kind of an extension of the above.  While my obsession with helicopters mainly rests in flying them into crazy areas full of "bad-guys" and lots of automatic weapons fire.. I wouldn't turn down the chance to snipe out of one.  Why you ask? Just to say I did. ...duh!

This guy is a Royal Air Force sniper. One of the elite. You know he's all that is man.

Number Two: Be a driver in a off-road rally race

One thing that all manly men have in common? The ability to drive awesomely.  Hence my desire to participate  in one of the greatest tests of driving ability.  I feel that the adrenaline rush from driving in excess of 100mph through sparsely populated forests and/or deserts where most people would creep along in second gear would be enough to make me want to giggle like a school girl!

Insert manly driving sound effect....here!

Number Three: Collect a library full of old books.

Sounds incredibly lame. Until you think about it... Men who are classy are just as manly as those who can shoot guns. Hence the manliest man of all time; Bond, James Bond.  Thus, we get the one thing on my Bucket List of Manliness that I might actually accomplish in my life.  I'm currently looking for classics (such as A Tale of Two Cities, Treasure Island, Jane Eyre) in old binding with older publishing dates at second hand bookstores wherever I go in the hopes that one day I will collect a whole wall-full of historic and classic books.

Mmmmm. Smells like knowledge.

Number Four: Become a well-known writer.

Obviously I'm a fan of writing, and nothing makes a writer more happy than knowing that someone reads the words they put on paper.  Growing up as an incredibly avid writer I, as everyone else, know and respect the names of J.K. Rowling, J.R.R. Tolkien, Tom Clancy, John Grisham, etc...  By no means do I aspire to be as well-known and world changing as those authors I would be happy to have a few of my own books in my library.

Manliness aspect? I tend to write stories about military men and semi-biographical works about manly men.

Yup.. still a ways away from this one too.

Number Five: Own a nice (but not too flashy) car.

When people ask me what I'd do with the money if I cashed in on the lottery I tell them I'd pay for for my education, my wedding, my kids education, buy a nice car, and invest the rest.  By no means do I want anything flashy like a Ferrari or a Lambo.. those would be too much.  A manly man restrains himself to something elegant and practical.

Look out Jason Statham and whoever that is in the picture... One day I'll be the manly face of Audi

Part Six: Own a devilishly good-looking suit and classy watch.

Nothing says MAN like a well-dressed one. Again we re-visit James Bond.  Ever since I was a little kid I've had a fascination with dressing up in suits and watches waaaaaaay outside my budget. Never really went away and now I find myself drooling over find suits and expensive watches.

It would appear that I have to go to work now so I can start saving for all of my vain, manly aspirations.  Thanks for reading, this has definitely been a fun blog for me, I hope you enjoyed it too.  Here's a shout-out to all the real manly men out there!

Cheers!
